100 years after the Anti-Asian race riots in Vancouver Canada, media artist Karin Lee questions the relationship between immigration, labour and business while commenting on the current phenomenon of globalization.
SHATTERED brings together two historic perspectives of the riots while locating it within contemporary Vancouver.
SHATTERED is written, directed and produced by Canadian Academy Award (Gemini) winning director Karin Lee.
Shattered was created during an artist-in-residency program at VIVO Media Arts Centre. It was shown as a two channel site-specific video installation in Vancouver’s Chinatown and Japan town on night of the 100th anniversary of the riots — September 7th, 1907.
